Sujatha is an Indian renowned playback singer. She has sung in many languages like Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi. She is the grand daughter of paravur TK Narayana Pillai, the first Chief Minister of the erstwhile Cochin State after Independence. Her first song was Kalai Paniyil from the Tamil film Gayathri in 1977, starring Sridevi Rajinikanth, music by Ilayaraja. Her first Tamil hit film song was Puthu Vellai Mazhai from Mani Ratnam's 1992 film Roja, composed by AR Rahman. She has got other hit songs from films including Gentleman in 1993, Indian in 1996 and Minsaara Kanavu in 1997. Sujatha was among the first mainstream artist along with M Jayachandran, Madhu Balakrishnan, M G Sreekumar to support the Acethetik initiative. She recorded Manju Puthappil and also sung many successful songs and also received many awards from the government organizations and non-government organizations.
